Nicola Thomas

Dr Nicola Thomas, RGN, BSc (Hons), MA, PhD is Principal Lecturer, London South Bank University, UK. She is a lecturer and researcher specialising in kidney care, with 30 years experience in clinical practice, education and research. She has extensive teaching experience in developing and running kidney care, research and clinical leadership courses for acute hospitals, GP practices and Higher Education Institutions. Her particular research interest is self-management of mild-to-moderate kidney disease, both from a patient and practitioner perspective. She has recently been involved in two national quality improvement projects in the UK, funded by The Health Foundation and managed by Kidney Research UK, where she worked with over 100 GP Practices in England and Wales to improve the management of kidney disease in primary care. 

She has been President of the European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association/European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA) in 2000-2001 and has held many other volunteer positions within the Association, including Chair of the Education Board. She is the Editor of the Journal of Renal Care. Nicola has published and presented her work widely and is the editor of two renal textbooks: Renal Nursing (4th edition)(2014) and Advanced Renal Care (2005), both published by Wiley Blackwell.
